Our hens spend all of their day on grass and therefore sometimes lay their eggs wherever they darn well please. It feels like Easter out here weekly. When not eating seeds, bugs, and the occasional leftover vegetable dinner scraps they’re supplemented with locally made, non-medicated, soy-free layer feed.
We do not wash our eggs for the purpose of maintaining the natural outer lining which fortifies the yolk from oxidation and bacteria. Our eggs last weeks longer than store-bought and do not need to be immediately refrigerated (keep below 90 deg F unless you want to start hatching your own!)
